BioINSouth
The BioINSouth project seeks to support decision-makers in integrating ecological limits into regional bioeconomy strategies and roadmaps related to circular bio-based activities.
The project develops guidelines and digital tools to facilitate the adoption of innovative methodologies for assessing environmental impacts across multiple industrial bio-based systems. By doing so, it aims to enhance regional competitiveness and innovation capacity, contributing to the EUβs fair and green transition. The initiative focuses on creating methodologies and tools for environmental impact assessment and circularity within a Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework. Its comprehensive toolkit is designed to assist decision-makers in implementing these practices effectively.
BioINSouth aims to strengthen regional competitiveness and innovation within the bio-based sectors of Southern Mediterranean European regions. Through the establishment of regional HUBs in eight regions β Campania (Italy), Andalusia and Asturias (Spain), Centro (Portugal), Nouvelle-Aquitaine (France), Peloponnese (Greece), Cyprus, and Slovenia β and by engaging a wide network of stakeholders including policymakers, public authorities, SMEs, and civil society, the project fosters collaboration and data exchange through Multi-Actor Regional Groups (MARGs). It evaluates environmental and economic impacts, analyses market growth prospects for bio-based chemicals and materials, and develops a regional monitoring system for bioeconomy sectors.
In addition, the project collaborates with the Czech Republic (BIO EAST HUB) and TΓΌrkiye to share valuable know-how on HUB creation, policy mapping, and replication strategies.
Its policy recommendations aim to embed sustainability and circularity into regional bioeconomy strategies. By ensuring broad dissemination and replication of results across Europe and collaborating with other Horizon Europe initiatives, BioINSouth contributes to advancing environmental sustainability, strengthening stakeholder engagement, and defining best practices for sustainable bioeconomy development.
