On 18 June 2026, the SYMBA consortium successfully held the Co-Creation Workshop: β€œSYMBA Policy Approach for Industrial Symbiosis”, bringing together stakeholders and project partners to review ongoing policy research and collaboratively shape recommendations for the implementation of Industrial Symbiosis at regional level.

The workshopΒ focused on the policy dimension of the SYMBA project, which is structured around two complementary workstreams: methodology and policy development. Participants explored insights gathered from SYMBA’s four demonstration regions: Murcia, Milan, Flanders, and Bornholm, discussing the main opportunities and barriers to advancing Industrial Symbiosis across different territorial contexts.

During the session, partners presented the outcomes of the policy analyses conducted so far, highlighting four core policy challenges identified across the regions. Participants then engaged in a series of co-creation activities, including interactive exercises conducted through Miro, aimed at jointly developing practical and actionable recommendations.

The workshop represented an important milestone for the project and for the development of SYMBA’s policy recommendations on how to implement the Industrial Symbiosis approach, while also identifying pathways for integrating these recommendations into local and regional strategies.

The conversation does not end here. Stakeholders are warmly invited to continue exchanging ideas, sharing experiences, and providing feedback through the dedicated discussion thread on the SYMBA Forum. The forum offers an open space to ask questions, contribute perspectives, and further enrich the recommendations emerging from the workshop. Discover here how to register to it.

The SYMBA consortium would like to extend its sincere thanks to ICLEI and Climate KIC for the excellent organisation and facilitation of this workshop, as well as to all participants for their valuable contributions.
