On September 25th and 26th, SYMBA took part in IFIB 2025 – the International Forum on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioeconomy with a scientific poster presentation, showcasing the results achieved so far across the project and opening the floor to discussion with the IFIB community.

IFIB 2025, held at Cavallerizza Reale (Turin, Italy), is an international conference dedicated to the circular bioeconomy and industrial biotechnology. The event was organized by the SPRING Cluster together with Innovhub-SSI and Confindustria Piemonte, bringingΒ together research, industry, and local ecosystems to foster partnerships and scalable solutions.

The 2025 edition highlighted industrial biotechnology as an enabling technology for the transition towards a circular and sustainable economy, with sessions exploring next-generation biotech solutions, biofuels, bioplastics and bio-based materials, and strong attention to organic waste and sludge recovery, chemical industry defossilization, and the valorization of agri-food value chains.

Among the key themes featured in the program:

  • Bioenergy – the role of biofuels in the ecological transition

  • European strategies – from regional initiatives to the new EU bioeconomy strategy

  • Technology transfer – bridging the gap from lab to industrial application

  • Advanced recycling – from recovery of absorbent hygiene products to organic waste reuse

The conference also included dedicated B2B matchmaking and poster sessions, designed to accelerate collaboration and technology uptake.

Through its poster, SYMBA highlighted practical approaches to industrial symbiosis and sustainable resource management, showing how the project is working to turn waste into value by enabling connections between actors, identifying resource synergies, and supporting pathways that strengthen a circular bioeconomy.
