Today is Plastic Overshoot Day. From this moment on, the world will generate more plastic waste than we can safely manage. Every bottle, every wrapper, every fragment of plastic produced from today until the end of the year risks leaking into the environment. That means 72.1 million tonnes of plastic will remain unmanaged, poisoning our oceans, our soils, our air.
Our planet is overloaded. The seas that should feed us now deliver microplastics to our plates. The fields that grow our bread and pasta are seeded with invisible fragments. Even the vineyards that gift us wine carry traces of this silent pollution. Science tells us microplastics have been found in almost every organ of the human body. We are literally eating, drinking, and breathing the consequences of our own production.
This is not just an environmental issue, itβs a human tragedy, a crisis of health, climate, biodiversity, and dignity.
At SYMBA, we refuse to accept this future. We love our Earth and we are working to change the way resources are managed through industrial symbiosis, where waste becomes opportunity, and materials circulate instead of suffocating our planet.
Plastic Overshoot Day is a symbol, but symbols matter. They remind us of the urgency to act, to rethink, and to transform. Because tomorrow is already too late.
