On 29 and 30 April 2025, the SYMBA project was presented at the CO2-based fuel and Chemicals Conference, held in Cologne, Germany. Recognised as a leading platform in Europe for the exchange of knowledge and networking within the Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) and Power-to-X sectors, the event brought together over 230 participants from 27 countries, including researchers, industrial stakeholders, technology providers, and policymakers.
Participation in the event was made possible through the collaboration with AIMPLAS, who kindly hosted SYMBAβs dissemination materials at their stand. The SYMBA brochure, highlighting the projectβs core objectives, methodology, and partner network, was made available to participants, providing insight into how SYMBAβs industrial symbiosis model contributes to advancing circular economy practices in the European process industry.
The conference offered a comprehensive overview of the most recent innovations and strategies in the field of carbon capture and utilisation, with a focus on the transformation of COβ into valuable products. Central themes included CCU policy and innovation, carbon capture technologies, green hydrogen production, Power-to-X for fuels, and the development of COβ-based chemicals, materials, and polymers. Advanced technologies such as mineralisation, electrochemistry, and photochemistry were also explored through high-level presentations and discussions.
SYMBAβs presence aligned with the conferenceβs ambition to showcase forward-thinking solutions that enable sustainable industrial transformation. By promoting cross-sector collaboration and the valorisation of secondary resources, SYMBA exemplifies how industrial symbiosis can actively contribute to climate goals and resource efficiency, in line with European Green Deal priorities.
