The SYMBA project aims to revolutionise industries by demonstrating how sectors like agri-food, packaging, wastewater, and textiles can shift from linear to circular economies, thus reducing environmental impacts. Climate-KIC (CKIC), one of the project’s partners, plays a role in ensuring the success of this initiative through its extensive expertise, network, and geographical reach across the entire EU.
As a research partner, CKIC brings unique strengths to the SYMBA consortium, which consists of nine partners with complementary competences, including research centres, industry leaders, and pilot facilities. As a pan-European partner, CKICβs primary contribution lies in fostering collaboration among external stakeholders such as businesses, policymakers, and citizens, to ensure the projectβs outcomes reach their maximum potential in creating sustainable change.
By leveraging its connections with companies, governments, and EU initiatives, CKIC helps promote industrial symbiosisβa key aspect of SYMBAβs mission. This collaboration between industries to exchange resources and by-products will lead to more sustainable practices, such as waste valorisation, bio-based packaging, and improved wastewater management.
Additionally, CKIC, alongside its fellow network partner ICLEI, plays a role in educating stakeholders about the importance of transitioning to a circular economy. Through outreach, workshops, and networking activities, CKIC will ensure that SYMBAβs objectives are communicated effectively, influencing policy changes and garnering support for bio-based solutions that benefit soil, water, and air quality.
In summary, CKICβs contribution to the SYMBA project goes beyond networking. By strategically connecting stakeholders, enhancing awareness, and driving policy advocacy, CKIC enables the project to demonstrate how industries can adopt bio-based, sustainable solutions on a broader scale.
